Mifepristone, also know as RU486 is a method to induce a medical abortion.

Mifepristone, also known as RU486, is taken orally in a doctor's office and followed two days later by another medication called misoprostol, which causes the uterus to contract, resulting in the expulsion of the pregnancy tissue.

Mifepristone has been used widely in the United States and Europe. There have been over 1,000,000 doses of Mifepristone used worlwide to induce medical abortion.

The vast majority who have used Mifepristone have had a safe, private experience.
